STEM at the Westcott House: Exhibition by the Dayton Regional STEM School November 14 – 29, 2009 Collaboration between The Westcott House Foundation and the Dayton Regional STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) School has resulted in a unique exhibition featuring cardboard furniture designed and built by students for specific rooms in Frank Lloyd Wright’s Westcott House. This project began during three days of the Dayton Regional STEM School’s Summer Orientation in July. The students learned about Frank Lloyd Wright’s organic architecture and the Westcott House itself, along with several identified needs for specific furniture pieces for individual rooms in the museum. From there students worked in small groups to brainstorm the best solutions, ultimately constructing life-size prototypes using cardboard, glue and a power jig saw. The finished products were evaluated by a jury who selected the exhibit pieces to be on display. |
