2. Public Lecture

"Wright and the Composition of Space"

Thursday, March 8, 2007, 7 - 8:15 p.m.

Grant Hildebrand, architect and professor emeritus, University of Washington, Seattle, WA

Professor Hildebrand says, "Wright once cited a Japanese aphorism that a vase is important not in itself but because of the space inside. Fair enough-but in architecture the issue is a lot more complicated, as Wright profoundly knew, since spatial composition in architecture was, above all, the art that most distinguishes his revolutionary work." Professor Hildebrand, a noted authority on Wright, will discuss the impact of spatial composition on Wright's remarkable accomplishments including The Westcott House and its importance in the broader context of the architect's oeuvres.
