Teacher Workshop
Is There a Wright Way to Look at the World? Architecture, Design and Mathematics Workshop
Monday, June 18 through Wednesday, June 20, 2007
Presented by Dr. Barbara Ashton, Associate Professor of Mathematics, Borough of Manhattan Community College - CUNY
Sponsored by Martha Holden Jennings Foundation
The Westcott House Foundation offers a three-day workshop developed by Dr. Barbara Ashton, Associate Professor of Mathematics and expert on Froebel Education at Borough of Manhattan Community College in New York. This project was inspired by the architecture of Frank Lloyd Wright and the Froebel Kindergarten philosophy. Frank Lloyd Wright claimed that Froebel blocks had a profound impact of his perception of the world and his creative abilities throughout his career. The workshop is designed to provide teachers with relevant material they can use in the classroom. This project is set in the context of the Westcott House, Frank Lloyd Wright’s only Prairie style house in Ohio. Join us to explore this Springfield treasure and find creative ways to connect your students to local history through architecture, design and mathematics.
This free workshop will be offered June 18-20, 2007. Credit Hours and Continuing Education Units are available. To register, please call Marta Wojcik, Curator of Interpretation, at 937-327-9291 or e-mail mwojcik@westcotthouse.org.
