The Westcott House Foundation celebrates October as Ohio's Arts & Humanities Months by Offering discounted tours to Clark County Residents

[SPRINGFIELD, OH – September 30, 2011] - The Westcott House Foundation will celebrate October as Arts & Humanities Month by offering Clark County residents a 50% discount on tours of Frank Lloyd Wright’s Westcott House.

This month, The Westcott House Foundation joins the Ohio Arts Council, the Ohio Statehouse and arts organizations statewide in celebration of the arts and humanities in our state. Governor John Kasich has issued a proclamation declaring October Arts & Humanities Month in Ohio. "The arts and humanities play a unique role in the lives of our families, communities and country by enhancing and enriching the human experience," proclaims Gov. Kasich. "I hereby designate October 2011 as Arts & Humanities Month throughout Ohio and encourage the residents of Ohio to celebrate and promote the arts and culture in our state."

Cited as one of Frank Lloyd Wright’s most important homes, The Westcott House was recently restored to its 1908 appearance and open to the public in 2005. “We offer this special discount to the residents of our county in hopes that it will serve as extra encouragement to visit our local icon this fall,” said Marta Wojcik, Executive Director & Curator. “I hear from many people in our community that they have yet to visit the Westcott House and this will serve as a friendly reminder that we are here, ready to share this beautiful landmark with them!”

Springfield is the only community in Ohio that has a Frank Lloyd Wright Prairie style house. It is a unique addition to an already rich cultural scene of this city. “Springfield has so many incredible cultural assets”, said Wojcik. “We hope that by participating in this statewide initiative we will help increase awareness and participation in arts offerings throughout Springfield.”

The museum, located at 1340 East High Street (entrance at 85 South Greenmount Avenue), offers guided tours Wednesday-Saturday, 11am-5pm and Sunday 1-5pm. Tours start every hour. Tour reservations are strongly recommended. In October, Clark County residents will be offered admission of $5.25 for adults, $4.50 for students and seniors. Tours are free to children 6 years old and under.

In addition, the museum has a unique store that offers distinctive gifts inspired by the designs of Frank Lloyd Wright and other prolific designers, as well as contemporary local artists. The Westcott House Foundation’s mission is to preserve and interpret the Westcott House and inspire creativity and innovation through architecture and design education.
