Experience Wright’s classic Prairie Style home designed for Burton and Orpha Westcott, and their children Jeanne and John. The Westcott House, saved from a looming demolition, underwent a multimillion-dollar restoration that brought this beautiful complex to its original glory. The house opened to the public on October 15th, 2005. Explore Wright’s revolutionary ideas that today can be enjoyed by the public through a very limited selection of the sites from this period.

The Westcott complex consists of the main house, garage, pergola and perennial gardens. Your ticket includes a docent-guided tour of the property and a short documentary. Please allow 1 hour 30 minutes for this experience.

If you have any questions, please contact info@westcotthouse.org.

ACCESSIBILITY:

For any special assistance please don't hesitate to reach out to our staff at info@westcotthouse.org.

Parking & Accessibility:

For the most convenient parking, please use 85 South Greenmount Avenue address, which will take you right next to the museum store/welcome area entrance. We encourage patrons with limited mobility to park as close to the entrance as possible. Once you enter the museum store you have access to the ADA-accessible bathroom and a seating area.

A few considerations in regards to accessibility and our guided tour:

  • The whole experience lasts approx. 1 hour 30 minutes. We try to provide some opportunities to sit down and rest during the tour, but a lot of standing and walking activity is to be expected. Our visitors can request a folded chair for extra rest.
  • The main level of the house can either be accessed by a flight of 9 steps or through the back gardens (this involves a small grassy slope and a ramp accessible by the wheelchair). Our staff assists the visitors who wish to use the alternative access to the house to avoid the steps.
  • The second floor of the house is only accessible via stairs. There are 2 flights of 8 steps each, separated by a large landing. In the past, guests unable to make it to the second floor have waited comfortably in the seating area downstairs. We are currently wrapping up a virtual program capturing the tour of the second floor that will be soon provided to our visitors who cannot access upstairs.
  • All stairwells have handrails.
  • While the house itself is not completely ADA accessible, the exterior of the house can be enjoyed from the sidewalk along South Greenmount (side) and East Main (front of the house).

We are always happy to adapt the tour to meet the needs of our guests, so please let me know if there is anything we can do to make your visit as enjoyable and comfortable as possible.
