We are finally offering our flagship youth program to inspire our adult audience! This special Design Studio edition will combine a series of hands-on exercises focusing on digital media skills - such as photography, videography, and computer-based editing - in order to explore artistic expression and creative problem solving. Participants will have an opportunity to test their creations as part of 3D light art installations. Selected material will be featured at the 2019 Holiday in the City new media production.
Instructor: Scott James is a Seattle-based artist. Scott designs and implements visual installations; performs live music and video; develops custom mixing software, and integrates digital media into real environments. His experience includes a Master’s degree in landscape architecture, graduate level teaching in landscape design and multimedia, work experience in multimedia design, event production, and creative direction. Scott has collaborated with the Westcott House since 2006 as an artist in residence and an author of an award-winning Design Studio presented annually to youth ages 13-18. These summer and in-school sessions serve teens with interest in art, time-based media, digital photography, and videography. Scott has developed a curriculum around design and digital art skills, aimed at increasing the creative fluidity necessary to explore and communicate complex and personally meaningful ideas and feelings.
This program is part of Westcott Design Hub, a design education initiative generously supported by the National Endowment for the Arts, Ohio Arts Council, Turner Foundation, Springfield Foundation and Ruth B. and Thomas F.
